Deblokada attracts creative potentials and initiates creation of works
of art by widening the network of people working together and
intensifying contacts with international partners.
With ten documentaries and short feature films shown at the most
prestigious international festivals, the Berlinale’s winner full-length
feature film Grbavica, and five films in their preproduction phases,
the production company Deblokada is one of the most creative production
companies of South Eastern Europe.
Deblokada was founded in 1997 as an association of artists. From its
beginning, Deblokada respected authentic forms of authors’ film
expression, while taking into account the market effects of the
production of various artistic forms.
Deblokada gathers people who want to improve the society they live in
and who express themselves through films, video, theatre or other media
of art. The name of this production company has its roots in the
wartime in Bosnia and Herzegovina: citizens of Sarajevo, the city that
suffered the longest siege in the history of modern warfare, dreamt of
a day when the siege would be lifted. After the end of the war there
was a need to remove the blocks to conscience and creative potentials.
That is why Deblokada’s wish from the very beginning has been to
overcome the state of economic, psychological and political blockade,
in which art found itself in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to
promote works of young artists and link them to artists from the whole
world.
Deblokada was founded a decade ago by director Jasmila Zbanic and
producer Damir Ibrahimovic, who gather artists of various profiles from
the whole world and open space for joint expression and release of
creative potentials. The following artists have cooperated with
Deblokada: Eve Ensler, Peter Schumman, Lee de Long, Christine A. Maier,
Šejla Kamerić, Lejla Hodžić, Ales Kurt, Damir Šagolj, Mustafa Mustafić,
Leon Lučev, Boris Dežulović, Barbara Albert, Zoran Solomun, Niki
Mosbock, Mirjana Karanović...
Apart from individuals from various artistic fields Deblokada also
cooperates with institutions like TV ARTE, ZDF, COOP99, THE MATCH
FACTORY, Public Broadcasting Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Center
for Contemporary Art, Sarajevo Film Festival...
